“Is life without meaning possible? What are we looking for when we are looking for meaning? What is the meaning of meaning?” These are some of the questions that we will collectively explore in this process-focused group therapy.

What is Logotherapy? Logotherapy is a philosophical, existentially-oriented approach.

The group is based on Somov’s 2007 article “Meaning of Life Group:Group Application of Logotherapy for Substance Use Treatment” in the Journal for Specialists in Group Work, 32 (4), and on his monograph The Sixth Battle of Acedia: Meaninglessness - a Mid-Life Opportunity (I-Catching Press).

Start date: Tuesday, May 7th; keep in mind that the start date may be postponed if there are not enough group members to begin the group.

Duration: 10 sessions.

Group size: 8-10 participants.

Group composition: co-ed | group is available to current practice clients, by referral from clinicians and by self-referral. If referred by another clinician or self-referred, there will be a brief (30 min) screening/assessment session to make sure that this group is an appropriate fit for you (the cost of the assessment session is $100).

Format/schedule. Group will meet in-person (Oakland), weekly on Tuesday nights, from 6pm to 7:30pm.

Costs: This is a self-pay group. Cost of participation is $70 per group session. The first 5 sessions of the group must be prepaid. There is an unconditional late-cancellation/no-show/missed-session fee of $35. This has to do with the fact that once the group begins, it is impossible to add new group members to the group in the event that a current group member chooses to discontinue group.

The group will meet weekly, on Tuesday nights, for 10 weeks; each session is 90 minutes. Group will consist of 8-10 individuals. Insurance accepted (UPMC, Highmark). Self-pay is also accepted ($70 per session).

There is an unconditional late-cancellation/no-show/missed-session fee of $35. This has to do with the fact that once the group begins, it is impossible to add new group members to the group in the event that a current group member chooses to discontinue group.

The group is available to current practice clients, and by referral from clinicians and by self-referral. If you are referred by another clinician or self-referred, there will be an hour-long clinical interview (billable to insurance) to determine if the group is a good fit for you. If you are self-pay and not a current client of the practice, you will be responsible for the cost of the clinical screening interview at Dr. Somov’s self-pay rate.
